To start things out I found this interesting Budweiser ad. The background on the ad is that Budweiser decided to take five of their older advertisements from the 1950’s and reimagine them for todays world. The original ad showcased just how many great qualities of a man she demonstrated by doing the dishes and serving food with Budweiser to please her husband.
Here, the company takes a sharp U-turn and makes the ad much more pro-woman. They try to show that everyone can enjoy their product, not just men. And beyond that they show that her purpose isn’t solely to serve a husband, because she already has all she needs.

L’Oreal made an ad that includes their product, but that isn’t focused on what is typically considered their target audience. With that said, the company doesn’t exclusively advertise to women anymore.
This is part of a series of ads geared at individuals in a position to be able to hire more women. It shows the stats regarding women in the workplace, in terms of performance as well as actual stats of women’s placement in the workforce.

I personally really enjoyed this ad. I don’t feel like much in this ad makes sense, but I can’t find anything that alludes to a gender stereotype. The man and the woman in this ad are both at a gas station doing something, while being enamored by the other.
If the company were to want to, they could have thrown in something that would make it stereotype a gender, but they decided to remain neutral. Even the product, though different, uses the same name.

Though it may not be the most blatantly stereotypical ad, I did find this one to be stereotypical regarding men. I know Brut is an older fragrance brand for men so it would make sense for them to publish something like this to me.
WHen the ad says “men are back” I feel like it’s implying that men went somewhere. The image that goes along with the phrase shows a man bandaging up in preparation of punching something. Which is stereotypically something “manly.”

The last ad I found is actually from an Australian company. I found other ads utilizing this same actress that didn’t leave much of an impression but this one stood out. The woman is getting ready, and it’s stating the meal will be ready before she’s even done, playing off of the stereotype that women take longer to get ready.
That is one stereotype that I never understood and cracks me up almost. When my wife and I are getting ready to go somewhere I always have to start at least ten minutes before she does, as I always take longer to get ready than she does.
